After his partner is killed and his girlfriend takes off, Chicago homicide detective Ryan Doherty is given one last chance to save his career with the double murder of husband and wife ad execs Scott and Carly Redding. Life wasn’t so lush at the Redding’s agency, Town Red Media, where the list of ex-employees runs fifteen pages long.
At the top of this list is Catharine Lulling, a former Vice President at Town Red. Ryan becomes obsessed with Catharine from their first meeting. She is charming, intelligent, wealthy, and possesses abilities even he can’t understand. Catharine draws Ryan into her unconventional world where he will risk the case–and his career–to find out if she’s for real, or if she’s the real killer.
What inspired you to write this book?
I’ve always loved mysteries and wanted to write one that was a little different–one that had a love story and a metaphysical component to it.
What topics in your book or background do you think book clubs would find interesting?
Dysfunctional/abusive workplaces, new age themes, loss and grief.
Tell us about your career outside of writing and how it influence your writing.
I am the founder & CEO of BabyNames.com. So I take names and naming very seriously, even for my characters. In Town Red, several characters give the story behind their names.
Describe your style of writing.
I like to write how the point-of-view character would talk. It’s casual and conversational.
Which authors have inspired you? I love mystery and thriller writers like Jeffery Deaver, Stephen J. Cannell, Sandra Brown and Janet Evanovich.
