On December 19, 2017, our network of sites was corrupted. This included all of our backups, and it even affected our off-site backups. Sadly, this was caused by our own hosting company, Host For Web. They left thousands of their customers in a lurch. Their support went dark for weeks as complaints rained down on their Facebook page. And, what was their response? They systematically deleted Facebook comments and posted news articles as if nothing was wrong. Many people posted similar stories of frustrated clients who eventually left their businesses, lost earnings and wages paid to employees, and businesses completely destroyed.
We’ve been migrating what we could salvage of our old sites to a new hosting company. While Book Club Reading List is back up, it is in a different format. We will test this new, simpler format for now. All previously added books will maintain their permanent listing status. All newly added books will be on a temporary/subscription basis. Our new model will continue to use proceeds from new book listings to purchase paid ads in order to drive more reader traffic. As more authors subscribe, there will be more money in the pool to buy ads. Basically, we ‘re aggregating ad buying so we can buy more traffic as a group than any one author might spend on his/her own. Since books on each genre page load randomly, each book receives equal exposure to the traffic. Please bear with us as we get back up and running. We apologize for the inconvenience.
